About the Author

Alan Guggenheim is an award-winning newspaper journalist (Salem Statesman-Journal) and author of regional history books and articles about the Pacific Northwest.

With his son Adam, he first wrote about David Stoliar and the Struma in a February 2004 Naval History magazine article about the sinking, entitled "Doomed From the Start."  He also wrote Sources & Strategies for Investigative Reporters; and Spirit Lake People -- Memories of Mount St. Helens.  He co-authored with Dan Postrel, The Lady Awakens; and with his father Gus Guggenheim, Protocol for Productivity.  He edited and co-authored with Dr. Ken Holmes, Lady with a Past.  

In 2013-2014, he researched, developed and wrote the story line for the Oregon Historical Museum's exhibit, "100 Years of a Powerful Partnership," a long-running, large-scale exhibition about the electricians who wired Greater Portland, Oregon.  He also researched and produced a history of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 48, entitled, "A Rising Tide of Diversity."
